Membership
Members shall be individuals, corporations (for profit and not-for-profit), and associations with particular competence or interest in nanotechnology and who meet the requirements established by the Board of Directors of Nanotechnology Enterprises,Inc. (NEI).
Membership Types
General: Members who demonstrate a serious interest in or make significant contributions to nanotechnology. This may be evidenced by scientific publications; attendance at nanotechnology science meetings; direct involvement in research; or other similar activity satisfactory to the Board of Directors.
Research: Pre-doctoral and post-doctoral students at an institution of higher learning in a scientific field related to vision or nanotechnology, schools, educational or research institutions, government agencies demonstrating a serious interest in or making significant contributions to nanotechnology, or corporations or other legal entities demonstrating a serious interest in or making significant contributions to nanotechnology.
Sustaining: Members in good standing in any class may choose to become Sustaining Members by supporting NEI in a financial way, and by submission to the Executive Director of a request on the form prescribed by the Board of Directors.
Contributing: Members who support the objectives of NEI, but do not satisfy the requirements of General Membership.
Honorary: A person who has singularly aided the progress of nanotechnology may become an Honorary Member when recommended thereto by the Board of Directors and elected thereto by a majority affirmative vote of the General and Sustaining Members present and voting at any annual meeting of the Corporation.
Joining
A candidate shall submit a completed Membership Agreement
and pay the current application fee. All information submitted on the application form shall be subject to review and verification by or under the supervision of the Board of Directors. The candidate shall become a member upon recommendation by the Board of Directors and payment of all applicable dues and assessments for the current year.
Member Voting
General and Sustaining Members whose dues are current are entitled to vote on any matter or attend any annual or special business meeting. Voting subjects may include advising the Board in setting the priorities of NEI for the upcoming year, assisting the Board in determining the need for new committees or projects, and such other matters as determined by the Board.
Elected Offices
General and Sustaining Members are entitled to hold any elected office in NEI.
Fees, Dues, and Assessments
The application fees and the dues, assessments, and other fees for each class of membership shall be established annually by the Board of Directors. Annual dues shall be established on the basis of the anniversary date of a Member’s calendar year based on the first day of the month immediately following the month that the Member first became a Member (Dues Due Date). The dues shall be payable on or before the Dues Due Date and shall be considered delinquent if not paid by the 30th day of the Dues Due Date which date shall be considered the Dues Delinquency Date. Assessments and fees shall be payable at the time or times that the Board of Directors shall determine. Members and Research Members residing outside of the United States will be assessed an additional amount to cover the added subscription and other mailing costs. These amounts will be determined annually and will be indicated on the dues statement.
Termination of Membership
A Member whose required dues, assessments, or other fees for a calendar year are not paid in full by the Dues Delinquency Date shall be considered delinquent. The membership in NEI of a delinquent Member whose delinquent dues, assessments, and fees for a year are not paid in full by the Dues Delinquency Date shall automatically terminate on that date. Members whose membership has been terminated as provided in this paragraph may be reinstated upon payment of dues for the current year in which the membership was terminated or in subsequent years by applying for membership and being approved thereto in the manner herein provided. Any Member of any class whose, dues, assessments, or other fees are not delinquent may file a written resignation with the Executive Director and shall cease to be a Member of NEI as of the date the resignation is filed.
